In a 1 KM radius the Main Street area has 45 health and wellness facilities, 6 churches, restaurants, grocery, and schools from primary to post-secondary. Main Street has 170+ total shops & services within a 10 minute walk. Its already a commercial hub, transforming the area into a pedestrian-friendly urban centre is the natural next step for the community.
Main Street currently has 4 major development projects underway, all stemming from the 2013 by-law changes.
Garden View Village - 174 Main Street
Greg Fong's family opened their first family restaurant in Halifax in 1923. Today, Fong still operates his family business, The Garden View Restaurant. A staple on Main Street since 1981, Fong is tearing down the family restaurant to put up an 87 unit mixed-use intergenerational facility with a new restaurant on the ground floor. The "vertical village" will also feature rooftop garden space, a bakery/cafe and a yoga studio. The complex features accessible rooms for seniors as well as modern penthouses with views of the surrounding harbour and lakes for younger professionals.
The Horizon - 139 Main Street
The Horizon is a $10 million mixed-use development. It's an affordable housing project with 50 apartment units and 6,000 sq. feet of commercial space.
It was planned by Affirmative Ventures, an innovative community economic development organization that helps mental health consumers and people with disabilities in Nova Scotia achieve financial independence. The project is currently seeking investors.

Lakecrest Apartments - Lakecrest Drive
There are currently two new apartment complexes set to go up on Lakecrest Drive. The new residential complex on 77 Lakecrest Dr. is set to have 49 units. More information about the 77 Lakecrest development.
The second building is slated to be built down the road on 46 Lakecrest Drive and will also consist purely of residential units.
